Maran Union Textile Minister initiates to double textile exports from Kongu region

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Tirupur: According to Dayanidhi Maran, Union Textile Miniter, the annual textile exports of Kongu region of Tamil Nadu along with Tirupur, Karur, Erode, Coimbatore and Palladam should get double by the year 2015 with significant shift in figures from Rs 21,000crores to Rs 40,000crores. The statement was presented this Monday according to which the current contribution of the region is one fourth of the total textile exports of the country.

As per the speaking held at Indian Textile Young Entrepreneurs Conference and SMEs development through International JVs, Mr. Maran impelled young generation to lay significant targets with the wish to work for the success of vision 2015. Significant export target of the country can be achieved only if the individual exporters reach their own targets, said Mr. Maran.

In order to raise their urge for participating in the cause he said, Play an active role in our textile delegations while we move abroad and you get windows open for good opportunities. He explained that the promotional trip of the ministry to Japan has doubled the exports over there from $150million worth of earlier exports is now converted to $300million.

Further Mr. Maran said that his recent Europe tour has brought significant results where more than sixty internationally established companies have come ahead to participate in the seller-buyer meet likely to be held in Delhi during the coming week. European buyers will be visiting India during the event which would be yielding good returns for the nation. We can provide effective business opportunities only; capitalizing them efficiently is up to you, he added.

Mr. Maran approached the industry with the desire to gear up and face the realities for the improvement of the business acumen through garment manufacturing from man-made fiber. This is stated also with the few of ruling out the ban on cotton exports. Make a beginning now, he said. Reaching up to the target of the ministry is difficult without the use of man-made fiber, he added. He also explained that the minister will be allocating funds for the development in the mission for man-made fiber.

Union textile secretary, Ms Rita Menon said, ‘potential for manufacture of sportswear, lingerie and active wear is much larger over here’. Exporters need to concentrate over synthetic wear in order to double the regional exports, she added.
